Review: The Devil Inside

Alright, this is my first review as far as being published goes, but I'll make this quick, painless and fairly simple. No big triumphant words to make you scour the countertop for a dictionary but, enough about that, let's get to the review.
Set in 2009, it's a "fake documentary" -- umm....something like "Cloverfield Meets Exorcism of Emily Rose" -- about a daughter searching for answers.
In 1989 Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley), mother of Isabella (Fernanda Andrade), pretty much brain humped three people with blunt objects during an exorcism. Twenty years later Isabella, travels to Rome where her mother is being treated in an institution. There, she hooks up with two rogue priests Ben Rawlings (Simon Quarterman) and David (Evan Helmuth), who perform unauthorized exorcisms and get their rocks off doing so.
Don't get me wrong "The Devil Inside" had potential, I mean the story was interesting in itself, evidence to that statement is easily summed up by the fact that you're reading this review about it.  Instead it came off as a Meryl Streep comedy. These "found footage" movies hinge on realism of the characters, it doesn't "seem" scripted.......all the time.....and you can detect some sign of actual anxiety in a perilous situation.  Simon Quarterman tried very hard to make this believeable and pull you in but, you need more than just Kobe to win.  I have a dark sense of humor and found a portion of the "disturbing imagery and situations" hilarious. Isabella, never really cared about her mother in the first place, this was more so to make sure she didn't turn out like the female equivalent of Stewie Griffin, wishing death upon everyone.
One thing about horror movies is the fact we go to get spooked, not here. They banter on about what should have been shown instead. There was way too much pointless dialogue in this film explaining exorcisms and not letting us see them. "The Rite" got it right! Unnecessary to explain multiple demonic possession as the possession of a host by multiple demons.  Thanks for the lesson....now get my robe, and let's cast out some demons.
Okay, so to the point of this, the exorcisms...they weren't that great, there was some contortions some menstrual cycles and plenty of unbrushed teeth. No struggle between good and evil, no struggle at all actually. The straps supporting these people seemingly broke like noodles with a simple tug, the priests were as prepared as the editing team was for this movie.  Just when you thought you'd get to see something interesting, the picture would lose focus and induce vomiting instead of allowing you to witness vomiting.
Long review short, the movie was short----awesome---the "spooks" were good---until the movie started---and no screams, until discontent for the ending of the movie arrived!  Oh it will arrive and you'll cheer that it did or wake up to the harrowing sounds of cries and, "wtf's" like I did!
